Frequently asked questions

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a modern and rapidly growing, healthcare model that seeks to restore the doctor-patient relationship. By bypassing insurance companies entirely, we cut out the administrative red tape that causes rushed visits and long wait times. Instead, you can expect to pay a flat, affordable monthly membership fee directly to the clinic. In exchange, you get unlimited access to your doctor, unhurried visits, and highly personalized care.

How does Direct Primary Care work?

With a monthly membership to Trailhead DPC you are able to plan and budget your yearly healthcare cost more accurately. One low fee covers almost all your general healthcare needs. No more guessing what the copay is going to be this time, or how much you will have to pay towards your deductible this visit. All visits are included. All non-visit needs are covered - telephone, video, text are all utilized as part of the all inclusive care you receive through direct primary care. Any additional costs would be clearly noted and would apply to labs, office dispensed meds and meds used during a procedure, as well as any pathology specimens that need to sent out. There are no surprises.

Extended access is for non-emergent, acute primary care issues. You would contact the office by message or text, we will review the message and advise on urgency of follow up. For life threatening emergencies you should always 911 or proceed to the Emergency Department.

How do I join or sign up?

Do I still need insurance?

Yes. We strongly advise our members to maintain some form of health insurance or a health-sharing plan. While membership to Trailhead Direct Primary Care would cover all of your everyday primary care needs and in-office procedures, insurance is still necessary to help you will cover any major, unexpected medical expenses that arise, as well as the routine preventive care that I cannot provide, like screenings for breast cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer. These include emergency room visits, hospitalizations, surgeries, specialist care, and more costly imaging (like MRIs or CT scans).

Does Trailhead DPC Accept Insurance?

No. We do NOT participate in or bill any insurance plans. This allows us to focus 100% of our attention on you, rather than on insurance rules, codes, and paperwork. Because we don't bill insurance, we never charge you a co-pay or any hidden costs for your visits. We provide transparent pricing so you know what to expect.

If I have health insurance, why would I join a DPC practice?

Traditional insurance is excellent for major, unpredictable medical events like hospitalization or surgery, but it has made everyday primary care expensive and difficult to access as many patients now have very high deductibles along with a monthly premium. With direct primary care, the physician can provide the time, attention, and improved access that the traditional insurance based clinics cannot with significantly lower out of pocket costs. Many patients choose to pair our membership with a high-deductible insurance plan or a health-sharing ministry. Direct primary care members find they have lower total healthcare costs with significant improvement in the quality of day-to-day care

Yes! Your monthly membership fee covers all of your doctor's time, visits, and clinical procedures. If you require external lab work or prescription medications, those are an additional charge. However, because we do not bill insurance, we can purchase labs and medications at wholesale prices. We provide these directly to you at extremely discounted prices saving you time and money at the pharmacy. Our clinic will make little to no profit on these services.
